Three views of an Olive-sided Flycatcher (Contopus cooperi)
Location: Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area, Alameda County, Calif. Date: May 21, 2005
This Olive-sided Flycatcher was seen along Levee Trail, "flycatching" from the top of dead trees.
Note the white tufts on sides of rump visible in the photo on the left. Sibley Guide to Birds has the following description: "white tufts on sides of rump occasionally exposed when relaxed..." whose presence can help separate it from the somewhat similar but rare Greater Peewee having faint pale patches there instead.
